Pros and cons of Smart Recorder Classic - The Transcriber/Voice Recorder app for iPhone and iPad

Smart Recorder Classic - The Transcriber/Voice Recorder app good for

Works great. I use it to record parts of my daughters music lessons.
This is a great app, does everything as advertised with easy functionality - records lectures and meetings well, even picking up on voices from back of the room. Would be 5 stars if there was a way to replay recordings through imac speakers
Does everything its advertised to do. Very easy to use and good sound quality/pick up on my iPad.
I paid it $2.99 twice ! could you give me back the money of the second one.the problem is there is no connect between the version lite and the full version.after I bought full version,I update the lite version to the full version , it was paid again!
Great app, works just like it is suppose to. A great feature to add in the future would be to display the actual time of the recording when using auto pause so you will know what time it started to record again.
This is a great little application that is terrific for note taking at meetings. I use it on an iPad and some of the functions dont work as described. The developer seems to focus on the iPhone. I have seen constant improvement in this app although there are still a few bugs. One must keep an eye to ensure it is actually recording. All in all, it has become a valued tool in my meetings. I recommend its use.

Some bad moments

Cant really say how it compares to competitors. Any without fast tagging like this app has cannot fairly be considered a competitor. This review is based on successful functioning of existing features and an attempt at reasonable expectations about what one should be able to accomplish with it. Think dictaphone. Smart Recorder categories didnt work for me initially. Dont know what changed but several days later categories seem to have started working. No software update involved. So dont understand why. The back arrow doesnt seem to work for the default or any other time interval. A big pain when youre trying to perform transcription. How did such a basic flaw pass through Apples or the developers acceptance testing? It would help if the skip forward/backward functionality supported having both a minor and major increment. Typing in time to jump to points led to flaky outcomes. Needs a better interface. However, I managed to record a three hour meeting without a hitch. Paired with a powered USB hub and a yeti mic I got an excellent recording of a 12 person meeting, including voices over a conference phone. I need to get more practiced with the tagging feature. Need to be able to make and label tags faster. Having tagging sets would help, so different tag sets could be preset and used based on the kind of recording. For example, tags to describe typical components of a meeting shouldnt have to be mixed in with tags describing general components of a speech or lecture. My rating goes up two stars once the forward/back button problem is fixed, entry of time directly to navigate works cleanly, and I become reassured the categories problem is truly a thing of the past. To get to higher levels one thing that needs to happen is the slider needs to be more tactile and useful. How about providing a wheel paired with a progress bar and time signature.
There is an issue with playing back a paused recording ..... It wont do it
Ive recently encountered serious problems with Smart Recorder. I was using Smart Recorder to capture voice notes taken as I reviewed construction deficiencies during two walkthroughs last week. On one day I created two "sessions", and on the next day created one "session". Each session was about 20 minutes long. When I went to transcribe the recordings, only about 3 or 4 minutes of each session was captured, even though the length of the audio file is ~ 20 minutes long. The same 3 or 4 minutes repeated during the entire 20 minute period. In essence, Ive lost all my important recordings taken on those days, which can never be recaptured, as progress on the project has not moved beyond those points. I emailed the developer about 3 weeks ago and have not received any response at all. STAY CLEAR if you value your work.
The app crashes if you go to tag a point in the recording and then hit the tag button a second time to close the tagging menu. Both free and pro version do this. There does not seem to be much difference between the free and the paid version that I could see. Also there are pop up adds (alerts for other apps) in BOTH the free and paid versions.
Awkward and cumbersome smart recorder aint that smart. Doesnt support mp3, hard to find settings, in intuitive interface, and unfriendly exporting options. Pretty disappointing all round. The only thing it does correctly is record sound
Paid five bucks for this app and it closes automatically when I try to open a paste file. Very, very poor app.
